A love song, for your dog

A love song, for your dog

Hey! I’m Marc. I’m a plain old dude, who lives with his lovely wife and dog, Nilla Bean in Portland, Oregon. I’ve always loved music (in my alternate universe, I am a hair-metal rockstar), and I’ve been writing silly songs for a long time. Mostly for sketch comedy shows, improv shower ballads, and goofy ditties to entertain my nieces and nephews.

I am one of those people who smiles and points, with a big goofy grin, and says out loud, “Dog!” whenever one walks by. When my wife and I bought our first house together, I badly wanted a dog of our own. My wife wasn’t too keen on the idea at first (she didn’t think a dog would work with our two cats). But after months of sending her postings of furry friends that needed homes, she finally warmed up to the idea, but she insisted that it had to be “The Perfect Dog.” Not too big. Not too loud. Not too high energy.

Enter Nilla Bean: the perfect dog (at least for us). We adopted her from a local rescue that specialized in rescuing animals from South Korea. We learned that Nilla was mostly a Jindo which are considered a national treasure in South Korea! She’s 45 pounds (not too big), she doesn’t really bark (not too loud), and the only time she gets excited is when there is a squirrel to chase (not too high energy). Most of the time she patiently lies around and stares at us with her giant brown eyes, silently willing us to take her for a walk. My wife and I were smitten.

I was amazed at how much joy and love our little furry beast had brought into our lives. My heart was so full that I felt like singing. I wanted to write an ode. An ode to my dog. I had an idea: I could marry my love of writing silly songs with my love of dogs! And that’s when “Love Songs for Dogs,” was born.

I love all the dogs and I know I am not alone. Let’s celebrate the canine rockstar in your life. If you have a special fur-friend that makes your life better, I’d love to write a song about them. A love song, for your dog.
